Year 3 Royal Armouries Visit
Today we visited the Royal Armouries in Leeds. We met a Roman soldier and also a member of the Iceni tribe who lived in Britain 2000 years ago. The Roman soldier wanted to see if we could be a member of the Roman army – could we follow instructions in Latin? could we support the other soldiers? could we use weapons and shields in battle?
The Iceni tribesperson told us the story of Boudicca and the fight against the Romans. We learnt about the Romans invading Britain and the deal that they made with the Iceni tribe. When they broke the deal Boudicca and the Iceni tribe were distraught and furious. They fought back bravely but even though they had 80,000 warriors, they lost against the mighty Romans army of only 400 men.
