Mighty Metals, Robot Racers!
In DT, Year 3 have been learning all the skills they need to make their very own robots! They have learned about the design process, and that sometimes you need to change your design to make it better. Last Wednesday they experienced this first hand when their product did not work! They were practising to see if we could use an electric circuit to make our robot move. They built a cart with 4 wheels and then added an electric circuit! First they practiced by making a lamp light up. Then they added a motor to one of the wheels of their cart using an elastic band. When they held the cart in the air, the wheels turned, but when we put it on the table, the cart didn’t move!
Liam and Willow suggested we use 2 motors, so we tried that, but we think it made the cart too heavy. Abdul suggested we use 2 batteries, but we couldn’t get the circuit to work. Perhaps we could improve the design of our carts to make them lighter. Perhaps we need motors that are not so heavy. We are going to go back to the drawing board to think of some new ideas for our robots!!”
