Defying (Investigating) Gravity
What a lovely afternoon in Year 5. Mr. Phillips had a brilliant time on Friday afternoon. He was cordially invited to a Wrens Science investigation, building on their learning about forces and gravity by designing then conducting an air resistance investigation.
We discussed the purpose of a parachute before seeing a demonstration and considering all of the aspects that help it in its quest to defy gravity.
There was science vocabulary coming from all angles from Mr. Whittle and the Wren’s Children alike. Opposite forces, equal and opposite, fair test, as well as dependent and independent variables.
Despite our best efforts we Wren’s weren’t sure whether they conducted a fair test and suggested a variety of measures that would ensure this was the case if the investigation was to be repeated.
