The wonderful world of milk with Arla Dairy

Arla Dairy spent the day at the Academy teaching pupils about the wonderful world of milk!

They got to learn about what cows eat and drink to stay healthy, which includes over 130 litres of water a day!

And they learnt they not only do cows have 4 stomachs, they also have a tongue that is about a foot long! How long is your tongue?

Darren from Arla told them about all the different processes milk goes through before getting to us.

Standardisation- where the cream is taken out and put back in to make it full-fat, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk.

Homogenisation- where it gets spun and spun and spun to get all the lumps out of it

Pasteurisation- where the milk gets heated up and then cooled down really quickly to get rid of all the germs so it’s safe to drink.

Everyone got a chance to try some milk and guess whether it was skimmed, semi-skimmed or full fat. It was a really great day of learning. Thank you Arla!
