Eco Club Roadshow!

Nightingale’s Eco Club led by Mrs Bellis and Mrs. Tariket have had a wealth of opportunities recently, firstly they attended Co-op Academy Brownhill to learn from their EcoSpace and develop their own ideas for Nightingale.

There they met Mr Ingle who looks after the garden area with pupils from the school. Eco Club were able to look around this wonderful space to help them develop ideas for improving areas around Nightingale.

Mr Ingle also put the group to work planting bulbs and plants in containers in order to decorate the front entrance at Nightingale while Brownhill’s regular feline visitor looked on.

Now the planning starts for the group to grow produce, make areas around school more attractive and encourage pollinating creatures into our habitat. Eco Club want to give special thanks to Mr. Ingle and definitely hope to visit again in the spring time.

Then they set their sights further afield, travelling all the way to Blackpool in order to experience how varieties of salad leaves are grown.

Accompanied by Elaine from Green Influencers who helped to plan the trip, they were made very welcome by James the owner of Dawndew Salad Farm along with Gemma as well as Jonathon and Alex from Keeling’s (the company who provide Co-op with salad produce)

Eco Club were given a guided tour of the salad farm and were overwhelmed by the actual size of it. They learned all about the process of growing salad leaves and were delighted to sample some of the produce .They even got to sample special edible flower heads grown for high end restaurants and even brought back a goodie bag of seeds pads to grow their own salad leaves! Hopefully they will be inspired to keep growing edible plants.

After this visit, Eco Club braved the dreadful weather to litter pick along the promenade in Blackpool. Well done Eco Club! You should all be very proud of how you represented  our school and a special thank you also to our very informative, kind hosts .
